Deleum in collaboration with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) conducted an awareness session on Anti-Bribery and Corruption on 30 July 2021. The talk delivered by Tuan Mohd Nur Lokman Bin Samingan, Assistant Commissioner, Community Education Division of MACC, was organised as part of refreshed commitment on good corporate governance and anti-corruption practices. The session is part of initiatives by Deleum in embracing the culture of Zero Tolerance To Bribery and Corruption.

Mr Rao Abdullah, Group Chief Executive Officer of Deleum reminded participants that Deleum is an organisation that is guided by the principles of good corporate governance. The Code of Business Conduct, Anti-Bribery policy, and related procedures to abide with which were approved by our Board of Directors and made available in website and intranet. It is a key step in our fidelity to understand, adopt, comply with the guideline and regulations, whilst upholding our core values: Integrity, Professionalism, Sustainability and Excellence.

The honorable speaker, Tuan Nur Lokman shared and overview on various forms, causes and effects of bribery and corruption practices. He emphasised the importance on Section 17A - Corporate Liability Provision, Malaysian Anti -  Corruption Commission (Amendment) Act 2018. In line with Deleum's Whistleblowing Policy and Investigation Procedure, Tuan Lokman encourages individual to come forward either as a whistleblower or a complainant to promote transparency, accountability and ethics and to ensure high standards of corporate governance is being upheld in the workplace.

As part of the ongoing Anti-Bribery and Corruption Campaign, Deleum organized a talk programme in a bid to further embracing the journey against bribery and corruption. In his opening remarks, Deleum’s Group CEO, Mr. Rao Abdullah highlights the importance of demonstrating Integrity in the workplace. He urges all employees to uphold the commitment of zero tolerance to any form of bribery and corruption. reporting channel.

“Tumbuk Rusuk: Break The Silent” is an insightful session with En. Mohd Firdaus Bin Ramlan, a former magistrate who once served a three-year jail sentence on a corruption charge. The guest speaker shares the circumstances of abuse of power which pushed him to be corrupted. He further emphasised that the most corrupt acts are not crimes of passion but crimes of calculation and cited “Corruption = Monopoly + Discretion - Accountability”

En. Mohd Firdaus hopes that his humbling experience would act as a strong reminder and deterrent to others. “My misdeeds led to painful consequences and my family too suffered”, he added.

The session witnessed participation by Board of Directors, Management team and Executives and some were crowned as the winners of the quizzes and games during the session. Everyone was reminded to play their role to report any wrongdoing via Deleum’s whistleblowing reporting channel.
